The virgin\u2019s name was Mary.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-24922\" class=\"text Luke-1-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28&nbsp;<\/sup>The angel went to her and said, \u201cGreetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24923\" class=\"text Luke-1-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29&nbsp;<\/sup>Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-24924\" class=\"text Luke-1-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30&nbsp;<\/sup>But the angel said to her, \u201cDo not be afraid,&nbsp;Mary; you have found favor with God.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-24925\" class=\"text Luke-1-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31&nbsp;<\/sup>You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-24926\" class=\"text Luke-1-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32&nbsp;<\/sup>He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.&nbsp;The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-24927\" class=\"text Luke-1-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33&nbsp;<\/sup>and he will reign over Jacob\u2019s descendants forever; his kingdom&nbsp;will never end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24928\" class=\"text Luke-1-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cHow will this be,\u201d Mary asked the angel, \u201csince I am a virgin?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24929\" class=\"text Luke-1-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35&nbsp;<\/sup>The angel answered, \u201cThe Holy Spirit will come on you,&nbsp;and the power of the Most High&nbsp;will overshadow you.
