{"id":1534,"date":"2023-10-08T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-08T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/YM\/?p=1534"},"modified":"2023-10-13T15:47:20","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T15:47:20","slug":"sermon20231008","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/YM\/sermon20231008\/","title":{"rendered":"Conquering the Unwilling Heart (Pt 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sermonNotes2023\">\n<p>2023 Church Theme: Advancing God\u2019s Kingdom in the New Normalcy<br \/>\nScripture: Jonah 3-4 (ESV)<\/p>\n<p>Speaker: Pastor Aaron Garcia<\/p>\n<div class=\"audio-container\"><audio controls=\"controls\"><source src=\"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/mp3\/English\/2023_1008_E.mp3\" type=\"audio\/mpeg\" \/><\/audio><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Jonah 3 (ESV)<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Jonah-1-1\"><span id=\"en-NIV-22534\" class=\"text Jonah-1-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">1 <\/sup><\/span><\/span><span class=\"text Jonah-3-1\">Then the word of the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0came to Jonah the second time, saying,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22561\" class=\"text Jonah-3-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cArise, go to\u00a0Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22562\" class=\"text Jonah-3-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days&#8217; journey in breadth.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22563\" class=\"text Jonah-3-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>Jonah began to go into the city, going a day&#8217;s journey. And he called out, \u201cYet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22564\" class=\"text Jonah-3-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>And the people of Nineveh believed God.\u00a0They called for a fast and\u00a0put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Jonah-3-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>The word reached\u00a0the king of Nineveh, and\u00a0he arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth,\u00a0and sat in ashes.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22566\" class=\"text Jonah-3-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh,\u00a0\u201cBy the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor\u00a0beast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22567\" class=\"text Jonah-3-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>but let man and\u00a0beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God.\u00a0Let everyone turn from his evil way and from\u00a0the violence that is in his hands.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22568\" class=\"text Jonah-3-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Who knows? God may turn and relent\u00a0and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ESV-22569\" class=\"text Jonah-3-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>When God saw what they did,\u00a0how they turned from their evil way,\u00a0God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Jonah 4 (ESV)<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Jonah-2-1\"><sup class=\"versenum mid-paragraph\">1 <\/sup><\/span><span class=\"text Jonah-4-1\">But it displeased Jonah exceedingly,\u00a0and\u00a0he was angry.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22571\" class=\"text Jonah-4-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>And he prayed to the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0and said, \u201cO\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country?\u00a0That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a\u00a0gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and\u00a0relenting from disaster.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22572\" class=\"text Jonah-4-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore now, O\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>, please take my life from me,\u00a0for it is better for me to die than to live.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22573\" class=\"text Jonah-4-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>And the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0said,\u00a0\u201cDo you do well to be angry?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-ESV-22574\" class=\"text Jonah-4-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Jonah went out of the city and sat to the east of the city and\u00a0made a booth for himself there. He sat under it in the shade, till he should see what would become of the city.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22575\" class=\"text Jonah-4-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Now the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> God appointed a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort. \u00a0So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the plant.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22576\" class=\"text Jonah-4-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the plant, so that it withered.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-ESV-22577\" class=\"text Jonah-4-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>When the sun rose, God appointed a scorching\u00a0east wind,\u00a0and the sun beat down on the head of Jonah so that he\u00a0was faint.
