John Chan<\/p>\n<div class=\"audio-container\"><audio controls=\"controls\"><source src=\"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/mp3\/English\/2023_0625_E.mp3\" type=\"audio\/mpeg\" \/><\/audio><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Matthew 20:1-15<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text 1Cor-1-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">1 <\/sup><\/span><span class=\"text Matt-20-1\"><span class=\"woj\">\u201cFor the kingdom of heaven is like\u00a0a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23795\" class=\"text Matt-20-2\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>He agreed to pay them a denarius<sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NIV-23795a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NIV-23795a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2020&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-23795a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0for the day and sent them into his vineyard.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23796\" class=\"text Matt-20-3\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAbout nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23797\" class=\"text Matt-20-4\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>He told them, \u2018You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.\u2019<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23798\" class=\"text Matt-20-5\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>So they went.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-20-5\"><span class=\"woj\">\u201cHe went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23799\" class=\"text Matt-20-6\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, \u2018Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23800\" class=\"text Matt-20-7\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>\u201c\u2018Because no one has hired us,\u2019 they answered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-20-7\"><span class=\"woj\">\u201cHe said to them, \u2018You also go and work in my vineyard.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23801\" class=\"text Matt-20-8\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhen evening came,\u00a0the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, \u2018Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23802\" class=\"text Matt-20-9\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThe workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23803\" class=\"text Matt-20-10\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23804\" class=\"text Matt-20-11\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>When they received it, they began to grumble\u00a0against the landowner.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23805\" class=\"text Matt-20-12\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>\u2018These who were hired last worked only one hour,\u2019 they said, \u2018and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat\u00a0of the day.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23806\" class=\"text Matt-20-13\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut he answered one of them, \u2018I am not being unfair to you, friend.\u00a0Didn\u2019t you agree to work for a denarius?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23807\" class=\"text Matt-20-14\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23808\" class=\"text Matt-20-15\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Don\u2019t I have the right to do what I want with my own money?
