{"id":1448,"date":"2023-06-11T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-11T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/YM\/?p=1448"},"modified":"2023-06-05T15:57:14","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T15:57:14","slug":"sermon20230611","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/YM\/sermon20230611\/","title":{"rendered":"The Gospel People, the Church, &amp; Preaching in Freedom"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sermonNotes2023\">\n<p>2023 Church Theme: Advancing God\u2019s Kingdom in the New Normalcy<br \/>\nScripture: 1 Corinthians 9 (ESV)<\/p>\n<p>Speaker: Pastor Aaron Garcia<\/p>\n<div class=\"audio-container\"><audio controls=\"controls\"><source src=\"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/mp3\/English\/2023_0611_E.mp3\" type=\"audio\/mpeg\"><\/audio><\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1 Corinthians 9 (ESV)<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text 1Cor-1-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">1 <\/sup><\/span><span class=\"text 1Cor-9-1\">Am I not free?&nbsp;Am I not an apostle?&nbsp;Have I not seen Jesus our Lord?&nbsp;Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28543\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2&nbsp;<\/sup>Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal&nbsp;of my apostleship in the Lord.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-28544\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3&nbsp;<\/sup>This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28545\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4&nbsp;<\/sup>Don\u2019t we have the right to food and drink?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28546\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5&nbsp;<\/sup>Don\u2019t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord\u2019s brothers and Cephas?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28547\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6&nbsp;<\/sup>Or is it only I and Barnabas&nbsp;who lack the right to not work for a living?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-28548\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7&nbsp;<\/sup>Who serves as a soldier&nbsp;at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard&nbsp;and does not eat its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink the milk?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28549\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8&nbsp;<\/sup>Do I say this merely on human authority? Doesn\u2019t the Law say the same thing?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28550\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9&nbsp;<\/sup>For it is written in the Law of Moses: \u201cDo not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain.\u201d&nbsp;Is it about oxen that God is concerned?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28551\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10&nbsp;<\/sup>Surely he says this for us, doesn\u2019t he? Yes, this was written for us,&nbsp;because whoever plows and threshes should be able to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28552\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11&nbsp;<\/sup>If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28553\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12&nbsp;<\/sup>If others have this right of support from you, shouldn\u2019t we have it all the more?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 1Cor-9-12\">But we did not use this right.&nbsp;On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder&nbsp;the gospel of Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-28554\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13&nbsp;<\/sup>Don\u2019t you know that those who serve in the temple get their food from the temple, and that those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar?<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28555\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14&nbsp;<\/sup>In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-28556\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15&nbsp;<\/sup>But I have not used any of these rights.&nbsp;And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28557\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16&nbsp;<\/sup>For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach.&nbsp;Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28558\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17&nbsp;<\/sup>If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward;&nbsp;if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28559\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18&nbsp;<\/sup>What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge,&nbsp;and so not make full use of my rights&nbsp;as a preacher of the gospel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 1Cor-9-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19&nbsp;<\/sup>Though I am free&nbsp;and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone,&nbsp;to win as many as possible.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28561\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20&nbsp;<\/sup>To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews.&nbsp;To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law),&nbsp;so as to win those under the law.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28562\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21&nbsp;<\/sup>To those not having the law I became like one not having the law&nbsp;(though I am not free from God\u2019s law but am under Christ\u2019s law),&nbsp;so as to win those not having the law.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28563\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22&nbsp;<\/sup>To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.&nbsp;I have become all things to all people&nbsp;so that by all possible means I might save some.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28564\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23&nbsp;<\/sup>I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text 1Cor-9-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24&nbsp;<\/sup>Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?&nbsp;Run&nbsp;in such a way as to get the prize.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-28566\" class=\"text 1Cor-9-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25&nbsp;<\/sup>Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.
