{"id":1272,"date":"2022-12-18T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-18T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/YM\/?p=1272"},"modified":"2022-12-08T18:42:26","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T18:42:26","slug":"sermon20221218","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/YM\/sermon20221218\/","title":{"rendered":"The Christmas Story that Leads to Glory &#8211; Part III"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sermonNotes2022\">\n<p>2022 Church Theme: Advancing God\u2019s Kingdom in the New Normalcy<br \/>\nScripture: Matthew 3:1-17<br \/>\nSpeaker: Pastor Aaron Garcia<\/p>\n<div class=\"audio-container\"><audio controls=\"controls\"><source src=\"https:\/\/www.mgc.ca\/mp3\/English\/2022_1218_E.mp3\" type=\"audio\/mpeg\" \/><\/audio><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Matthew 3:1-17<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Matt-2-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">1<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"text Matt-3-1\">In those days John the Baptist\u00a0came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23195\" class=\"text Matt-3-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>and saying, \u201cRepent, for the kingdom of heaven\u00a0has come near.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23196\" class=\"text Matt-3-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Matt-3-3\">\u201cA voice of one calling in the wilderness,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Matt-3-3\">\u2018Prepare the way for the Lord,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text Matt-3-3\">make straight paths for him.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"top-05\"><span id=\"en-NIV-23197\" class=\"text Matt-3-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>John\u2019s\u00a0clothes were made of camel\u2019s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist.\u00a0His food was locusts\u00a0and wild honey.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23198\" class=\"text Matt-3-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23199\" class=\"text Matt-3-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Confessing their sins, they were baptized\u00a0by him in the Jordan River.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23200\" class=\"text Matt-3-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: \u201cYou brood of vipers!\u00a0Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23201\" class=\"text Matt-3-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23202\" class=\"text Matt-3-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>And do not think you can say to yourselves, \u2018We have Abraham as our father.\u2019\u00a0I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23203\" class=\"text Matt-3-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23204\" class=\"text Matt-3-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cI baptize you with\u00a0water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with\u00a0the Holy Spirit\u00a0and fire.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23205\" class=\"text Matt-3-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-3-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-23207\" class=\"text Matt-3-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>But John tried to deter him, saying, \u201cI need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23208\" class=\"text Matt-3-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus replied,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cLet it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Then John consented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23209\" class=\"text Matt-3-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.
