Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23184\" class=\"text Matt-2-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14&nbsp;<\/sup>So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-23185\" class=\"text Matt-2-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15&nbsp;<\/sup>where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: \u201cOut of Egypt I called my son.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23186\" class=\"text Matt-2-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16&nbsp;<\/sup>When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-23187\" class=\"text Matt-2-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17&nbsp;<\/sup>Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NIV-23188\" class=\"text Matt-2-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18&nbsp;<\/sup>\u201cA voice is heard in Ramah,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Matt-2-18\">weeping and great mourning,<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Matt-2-18\">Rachel&nbsp;weeping for her children<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Matt-2-18\">and refusing to be comforted,<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"text Matt-2-18\">because they are no more.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-2-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19&nbsp;<\/sup>After Herod died, an angel&nbsp;of the Lord appeared in a dream&nbsp;to Joseph in Egypt<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-23190\" class=\"text Matt-2-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20&nbsp;<\/sup>and said, \u201cGet up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child\u2019s life are dead.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-23191\" class=\"text Matt-2-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21&nbsp;<\/sup>So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel.<\/span>&nbsp;<span id=\"en-NIV-23192\" class=\"text Matt-2-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22&nbsp;<\/sup>But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there.
